WHAT IS THE ROLE OF DEFENCE MINISTRY ? 

The role of a Ministry of Defence is very important in any government and for any country' s economy as it is responsible for overseeing the national defense and ensuring the security of the country  the Ministry of Defence has the following key roles:

1. National Defense Policy and Strategy

  • Formulating and implementing defense policy: The Mistryof Defence helps formulate the defense policy of the country, which includes plans to protect the country from external threats.
  • Strategic defense planning: It is responsible for designing strategies to address current and future security challenges, including war planning .


2. Budget and Resources Allocation

  • Budget management: The Ministry is responsible for allocating and managing the defense budget. 
  • Procurement: The Ministry plays a key role in overseeing the procurement of defense equipment, technology, and resources to maintain the armed forces’ effectiveness.

3. Research and Development

  • Defense innovation: It often collaborates with research institutions to innovate and develop new military technologies, weapons .
  • Cybersecurity: In modern times, the Ministry is also involved in cybersecurity efforts to protect .

4. International Relations and Alliances

  • Diplomatic relations on security matters: The Ministry of Defence works on building defense-related relationships with other countries, 
  • Participation in peacekeeping operations: Some Ministries of Defence are  humanitarian operations under the banner of global security.

  • Coordination with other agencies: The Ministry works closely with intelligence agencies, law enforcement, .

DEFENCE MINISTER OF INDIA :

RAJNATH SINGH He has held this position since May 2019. an Indian politician who currently is  the Minister of Defence of India .

Early Life and Education:
Born: July 10, 1950, in Bhabhau
Education: He earned a degree in Physics from BBM Government Degree College in Varanasi .

Political Career:

  • journey began in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) 

  • His work with the RSS laid the foundation for his later political career in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 
  • Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh: He served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2000 to 2002.

Personal Life:

  • Rajnath Singh is known for his simplicity, discipline, and deep-rooted ideology in the RSS and BJP. He is considered one of the senior-most and most respected leaders of the BJP.    
BUDGET OF DEFENCE MINISTRY : 

India's defense budget for 2023-24 was approximately ₹5.94 trillion (around $72 billion).

Key elements of India's defense modernization include: 

Defense Infrastructure: Modernization also involves strengthening the defense infrastructure, including bases, logistics, and border management systems.

Reforms in Defence Acquisition: The MoD has also been working to streamline defense procurement processes to make them more efficient, reducing delays in weapon systems delivery.
